Cover & excerpt reveal - The realization of Grayson Deschanelle

Release Date: January 24, 2020

Cover Design: Shannon M. Lumetta

Synopsis

Despite a high-profile clientele, fashion photographer Grayson Deschanelle prefers being behind the lens, away from public scrutiny. After his movie star girlfriend dumps him, he flees to his stepbrother’s remote cabin to hide from the paparazzi.

Related to Grayson by marriage, Lissy Carlton decides his plan to run from his problems might work for her, too. And perhaps he can help her out of the predicament that tanked her grades this semester of college as well.

Caught by surprise, Grayson finds Lissy much different than the girl he’s known for years. She’s no longer a child—though her teenaged crush is still very much intact. Snowed in with her, he tries to fight his growing attraction. But being with Lissy brings what his life is lacking into sharp focus.

The ice melts, and they return home. When their families discover their secret, Grayson must decide what kind of life he truly wants—and whether he’ll fight to keep Lissy by his side.

“I’ll go downstairs and sleep.”
“Move from this bed, and I’ll turn you over my knee,” he warned.
“Promises, promises,” Lissy whispered, eyes closed.
Jésus, she’s killing me. Grayson grabbed a pair of pajama pants and showered in record time. Opening the bathroom door, he peered at Lissy as he brushed his teeth. Curled up on her side with her back to the bathroom, she remained motionless except for her regular breathing. Good, maybe she was finally asleep.
He turned out the bathroom light and stopped to check on her before heading downstairs. With the back of his fingers, he brushed her hair from her face, and murmured, “Sweet dreams, mon chaton.”
“You always call me that. What does it mean?” In the filtered moonlight, her beauty was ethereal.
My little kitten. Sleep well.” He turned to leave, but she caught his hand in hers. Small and fragile, he could easily crush it. As a photographer, he saw life in visual metaphors. He prayed this wasn’t one.
“Gray?”
“Yes?”
“Please don’t go.”
“I’ll just be downstairs.” He wanted to comfort her, but fear skimmed the surface of his conscience like algae on water.
“I don’t want to be alone. Tell me I’m not a terrible person. Lie to me if you must…I just need to hear it.”
She opened her eyes. At that moment, if she’d asked him to cut his own heart out and give it to her, he would.
“You’re not a terrible person. You could never be a terrible person—you’re not made that way. You don’t have to do this, you know. You have other options. We can figure something out.”
Her lip quivered as she turned away from him.
His breath hissed between his teeth. I’m a dead man.
Resigned to his fate, he pulled the covers back and crawled into bed. Without a word, she rolled over, placing her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arm around his waist.
“Thank you,” she whispered as she drifted to sleep.
The warm body curled into his was the stuff of his dreams and now his worst nightmare.
I’m old enough to be her father, if I’d been careless…
Staring at the ceiling, he silently reviewed the multiplication table in English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
